Over this trimester we have done a multitude of projects that simply put break a lot of laws within the music industry but because they are obviously for educational purposes there is a loophole but if we ever wanted to use these projects as sellable products or promote them as original works we would need certain permissions and licenses from particular people and organisations. For example this trimester I have a done my jingle project using someone else's video and samples from youtube and free sample websites. Now even though these sounds and video are listed online and I can easily rip them off line there are some serious legal issues before I start using other peoples work. Firstly I would need to get permission to use the samples from the original creators of the sounds and then if I was to pay for these sounds it would be processed through APRA AMCOS this organisation looks after writers and creators and makes sure that they get paid for the work they do, unless the work is listed under a Creative Commons Licence this basically says that the creator is allowing people to take their work without a fee or the need to go through APRA AMCOS, and the PPCA that brings me to the second step of the process the PPCA, this organisation deals with the recorded material, so the song or sample or any other form of the recorded material. Now this mechanical licence only allows you to reproduce that track or sound for example if you wanted to sell another persons work you would have to get a mechanical licence from the PPCA. Now because I am using these samples in a film I would need to go directly to the publisher(s) to acquire a Synchronisation License this allows me to use the sounds in a film.
