I think this project came together really well, from the production process through to the final product I believe my self and the rest of the group worked well together and individually. At the core of this was communication, working in a group is hard when there is bad communication and all of us made the conscious effort to be as communicative as possible i.e. using Facebook messenger to contact each other and let one another what was happening and using Trello to basically pitch chosen ideas, set ups, studio times, etc. Personally I think I performed well within the group I made my best effort to be inclusive when possible and tried to bounce ideas of the other members of my group. I also used the time in the studio to asses how I could better myself as a team player and be cooperative in a large group setting, as someone who prefers smaller groups seven people was a new challenge especially as the number of people far out weighed the number of jobs around the studio. But we made work giving each other equal opportunity on the elements within the studio we wished to try and get better at and in the end created a good group dynamic. I also wanted to treat this project as professionally as possible therefore I made my ideas clear and concise trying to be as direct as to not loose key points in translation and also welcomed constructive criticism and other ideas, I always try and find the middle ground, I personally believe it a vital part of working in a team especially in a creative industry like music. Now as for the success in recreating the song I think we did a good job, obviously it's not going to sound exactly like Queen but in reference to the sound i.e. the compression and eq done and the slap-back delay used I think we near nailed it. The vocal tone was not the best but that is solely on the performance, if I was to record this again I think I would have aimed to sing in a warmer more Elvis like tone, although in saying that I think again we nailed the slap back delay. The other major part of this song is the backing vocals, despite them being backing vocals they play an essential part in the song and I think we executed the backing vocals really well, I think this for two reasons, one: we recorded them in a very similar way to the way Mack and Queen did it, by having 3 voices around 1 microphone and then sang each harmony in unison and then layered multiple takes creating the illusion of a larger group of people singing but not actually needing a choir and secondly we isolated, therefore we didn't have issues setting the mic to omni-directional and then having to EQ out compress out unwanted room noise or sound, it also made adding effects a lot easier as we weren't having to mix reverb to an already roomy sounding piece of audio. All together the recreation of the sound, tone, and vibe I think was very close especially in reference to the drum sound and choice in delay and reverb settings the only thing that really set us back was the vocal performance and the fact we didn't have time to Nashville tune the acoustic guitar, in conclusion a good execution.
